I first discovered AMAN one day when I came across a news article about Kanye West and his new wife, Bianca Censori, honeymooning at a luxury wellness resort in Utah called AMAN. After seeing the pictures, I was immediately in awe of the luxury, architecture, design, and beauty of this resort, located on 600 acres in Utah’s Grand Circle of National Parks and Monuments. As a wellness retreat owner myself, this is like a dream. One day, I envision Sunshine Paradise Retreats reaching this level of magnificence. For now, I am grateful and appreciative of my small business, still in its early stages.
Deep Dive into AMAN Resorts
Recently, I started deep diving into the AMAN resorts chain and learning about the owner of the Aman luxury hotel group, Vladislav Doronin. According to Doronin, Aman is valued at $4.5 billion, with 36 hotels and 38 projects.
He bought the luxury hotel chain, known as Amangiri, in 2014. The brand is considered a hit among the wealthy and wellness-obsessed, hosting the likes of Justin Bieber, Kylie Jenner, George Clooney, and Mark Zuckerberg at various locations worldwide.
Doronin is reportedly dating a former model named Kristina Romanova. Romanova is the CEO of Aman Essentials, where she oversees the sale of clothes, skincare, and jewelry.
Aligned with the theme of Aman resorts, Doronin says he meditates daily and is a student of the Taiwanese martial art of qigong.
The Visionary Behind AMAN: Adrian Zecha
But the true legend here is the founder of Aman in 1988, Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha. Zecha’s father wanted him to become a doctor, so he studied pre-med but ended up earning a master’s degree in political science.
Zecha says relationships and connections are what define his career.
Zecha's definition of luxury, especially for Aman hotels, is unique and personal rather than formulaic. He acknowledges that there is no set formula or manual for creating Aman hotels; instead, each hotel reflects individual personality and avoids uniformity. Zecha emphasizes the importance of both the physical space (hardware) and the service (software), comparing their interdependence to two hands clapping. The hardware attracts guests initially, but it is the software that ensures their return, illustrated by personalized gestures that leave lasting impressions.
Expanding the Legacy: Azerai
Zecha continues this artisanal approach with his new, more affordable brand, Azerai, aiming to maintain the same high-quality service despite smaller physical spaces. He remains actively involved in new projects, including one in California, and prefers to personally inspect potential sites.
